Innocence (2025)
Oil on canvas, 51”x32”
Innocence reflects the weight of judgment placed on women’s bodies, sparked by a conversation between the artist and her daughter about restrictive school dress codes. Her daughter’s frustration — learning that her clothing must not be “distracting to the boys” — revealed the early moment when a young girl realizes her body is being measured against societal expectations.
From this moment, the artist began gathering stories from women across generations, exploring how clothing choices shape perception, behavior, and treatment — not only by society at large, but within families and friendships.
Through soft color and quiet form, Innocence becomes both a record and a question: what does it mean to grow up in a world where a girl’s body is a site of regulation, and what freedom might look like when that weight is finally set down?
